Your heart stays on your phone.
Motionry records your rides, runs and walks on your iPhone and Apple Watch. There is no account, no ads and no Motionry server holding your activities. This page explains what stays on your device, what the app sends, and why.
Heart rate, routes and Apple Health records are never sent to us or to analytics.
Google Analytics for Firebase counts screens and features, never who you are.
Motionry does not track you across apps, so iOS never shows a tracking prompt.
Open the app and ride. Deleting it removes your activities from the phone.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything Motionry records is stored on your iPhone and, for workouts started on the wrist, on your Apple Watch. That includes:
- Your rides, runs and walks: GPS route, heart rate, speed, pace, elevation, steps, laps and pauses
- Activity names you type and your heart rate zones
- Settings such as your sports, heart rate source and paired strap
Motionry has no account and no server of its own, so none of this is uploaded to us. Your iPhone's own backups (iCloud or computer) may include the app's data, as for any app.
Permissions
Each permission is explained in the app before iOS asks, and each one can be skipped. Motionry keeps working with whatever you allow.
- Location
- While Using the App. Draws your route and measures speed and distance, and keeps working with the screen locked while you record. GPS stops when the activity ends.
- Apple Health
- Reads heart rate, resting heart rate, steps, date of birth and weight to set your zones and show recovery. Writes your rides, runs and walks as workouts with routes, heart rate and active energy.
- Bluetooth
- Asked only when you connect a heart rate strap such as Polar H10. Apple Watch works without it.
- Motion & Fitness
- Counts steps to show cadence and stride while you run or walk.
- Photos
- Add only. Saves the images and videos you create to your library. Motionry cannot see your photos.
Apple Health
Data read from or written to Apple Health is used only to run Motionry's features on your device: zones, recovery, workouts and charts.
You decide exactly what Motionry can read and write in the Health app, and you can change it at any time under Health › Sharing › Apps › Motionry.
Analytics
Motionry uses Google Analytics for Firebase, provided by Google, to understand how the app is used so we can fix problems and decide what to improve. The data is anonymous: it is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID.
What the app sends
- Screens opened and features used, such as starting or finishing an activity, exporting, sharing, or opening the plans
- Rounded activity totals: sport, duration in minutes, distance to the nearest 0.1 km, step count, and whether heart rate and a route were recorded
- App choices: your sports, the type of heart rate source (Apple Watch, Bluetooth or none), whether Health is connected, onboarding steps completed or skipped
- Subscription status (free, trial, active, expired) and the outcome of a purchase
What Firebase adds automatically
- A random app instance ID, reset if you delete and reinstall the app
- Device model, iOS version, app version and language
- Approximate country or region, derived from your IP address
- First open, sessions and App Store purchase amounts
What is never sent
- Your name, email or anything you type, including activity names
- GPS coordinates or routes
- Heart rate values or any Apple Health record
- Bluetooth device names, which can be personal
- The advertising identifier (IDFA). Motionry uses the Firebase build without ad support.
Analytics data is not sold and is not used for advertising. Google keeps it for no longer than 14 months. You can read how Google handles it in the Firebase privacy and security page.
Maps and other services
- Mapbox
- Draws the maps in the app and in share images. To load map tiles, Mapbox receives the area being shown along with standard device and connection information. The Mapbox SDK can also send anonymous usage and location telemetry to Mapbox; you can turn this off from the ⓘ button on any map. See the Mapbox privacy policy.
- Google Firebase
- Anonymous analytics, as described above.
- Apple
- App Store, in-app purchases, Apple Health and Apple Watch, under Apple's privacy policy.
Purchases
Motionry Pro and its free trial are sold through your App Store account. Apple handles payment, and Motionry never sees your card or billing details. The app only receives whether your subscription is active so it can unlock Pro features. Manage or cancel it any time in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions.
Sharing and export
Map images, videos, stickers and GPX or FIT files are created on your iPhone. They go only where you send them: Instagram, Photos, Messages or any app you pick in the share sheet. Once shared, the receiving app's own privacy policy applies.
Your choices
- Skip or revoke permissions at any time in iOS Settings › Motionry, or in the Health app for Health data.
- Delete an activity from the app. It moves to Recently deleted, where you can restore it or remove it for good.
- Delete the app to remove all its data from your iPhone and reset the analytics app instance ID. Workouts already saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.
- Ask us about the analytics data or request its deletion using the contact below.
Motionry is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

The Motionry website uses no cookies and no analytics. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver them. If you join the Android waitlist, your email is used only to send one message when Motionry is on Google Play.
Changes and contact
If Motionry starts handling data differently, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change.
